The Competitive Volleyball Game Built for Skill, Strategy, and Clutch Moments
Free Ball is a volleyball game that blends arcade-style abilities with competitive esports gameplay. Master the fundamentals of volleyball while unleashing powerful abilities that can turn the tide of a rally in an instant.
Every serve, pass, set, and spike matters. Every rally can become a highlight.
Free Ball is built for players who want the intensity of competitive sports games with the excitement of clutch ability-based gameplay.

Volleyball is one of the most exciting sports in the world, yet it has almost no modern competitive video games.
Free Ball aims to change that.
The goal is to create a game that captures:
- the strategy of real volleyball
- the energy of arcade sports games
- and the competitive depth needed for esports
Matches are fast, rallies are intense, and teamwork is everything.
One perfect pass can win the point. One well-timed ability can save the match.

Free Ball focuses on the core volleyball loop:
Serve → Receive → Set → Attack → Defend → Repeat
But every player also has access to a special ability that can be activated after a cooldown, creating clutch, game-changing moments during rallies.
There are currently 8 heroes (names are work in progress), each built around a unique playstyle:
Boom Jump
Temporarily boosts your vertical leap far beyond normal limits, allowing you to hit at sharper angles, spike over blocks, and dominate at the net. Perfect for aggressive attackers who want to take control above the court.

Thunder Spike
Unleashes a high-speed, high-power spike that travels faster and hits harder than a standard attack. Ideal for finishing plays, overwhelming defenders, or punishing poor positioning.

Perfect Receive
Doubles your receiving radius and guarantees that your next receive becomes a perfect pass directly to the setter, making it easier to run a clean offensive play.
Shark Dive
A dive ability with a fast, low, lunging save, letting you recover balls that are far out of reach. Great for clutch defensive plays and keeping rallies alive under pressure.

Sky Ball
Serves the ball extremely high into the air, disrupting opponent timing and forcing them to reposition. Useful for resetting the pace of a rally or creating confusion on the opposing side.

Diabolical Serve
A deceptive serve that introduces unpredictable movement or spin, making it difficult to read and receive cleanly. Designed to force bad passes and break the opponent’s formation early in the rally.

Mirage Wall
Enhances your presence at the net by widening your blocking zone, making it significantly harder for attackers to find open space. Best used to shut down key offensive players.

Sweaty Dump
A quick, deceptive attack that catches defenders off guard by hitting the ball over unexpectedly. Perfect for exploiting gaps, especially when opponents are anticipating a full spike play. Leaves a puddle on the court where opponents can slip on.

Abilities are designed to enhance volleyball gameplay, not replace it. Positioning, timing, and teamwork remain the most important factors in winning rallies.
Note: Setters are currently AI-controlled to maintain structured team play, but playable setter roles may be added in the future as development expands.

Competitive 4v4 Volleyball
Team-based online matches where positioning, communication, and skill determine the outcome.
Arcade Ability System
Special abilities add exciting moments to rallies without removing the strategic depth of volleyball.
Skill-Based Gameplay
Serving, passing, setting, blocking, and spiking all require timing and precision.
Online Multiplayer
Compete against players around the world.
Unique Visual Style
Characters use a cel-shaded style while environments are more realistic, creating a visually striking contrast inspired by games like Ananta.
Built for Competitive Play
The long-term vision is a game that supports ranked play, tournaments, and esports competition.

Free Ball is currently in active prototype development.
Everything you currently see in the demo is focused on proving the core gameplay mechanics.
Important note for backers:
- All visual and audio assets are placeholders
- Characters currently T-pose due to lack of animation funding
- Assets used are downloaded placeholders to demonstrate the concept
The focus so far has been building the actual volleyball systems:
- ball physics
- rally flow
- serving mechanics
- receiving and setting systems
- spike and blocking logic
- ability framework
Animations, character models, and final art will come after funding.
The goal right now is simple:
Prove the game is fun first.

Free Ball is currently being developed by a solo developer.
Funding will allow:
- more development time
- animation production
- custom characters
- improved environments
- sound design
- multiplayer infrastructure
- potential additional team members
If the campaign exceeds expectations, it may allow development to move toward full-time production.

Instead of one massive campaign, Free Ball may grow through multiple development phases.
Phase 1 – Gameplay Foundation
- core mechanics
- multiplayer
- ability system
- prototype characters
Phase 2 – Animation & Visual Identity
- character animations
- custom character models
- polished UI
- improved stadium environments
Phase 3 – Competitive Systems
- online multiplayer
- ranked matchmaking
- progression
- tournaments

2026 Core systems and gameplay prototypes
2027 Animation, art direction, expanded abilities, polished multiplayer
2028 Planned release window
This roadmap may accelerate depending on Kickstarter support.

Free Ball is not just a sports game.
The long-term goal is to create a competitive volleyball ecosystem:
- ranked online play
- tournaments
- esports events
- highlight-worthy rally moments
A game where every match feels like a real volleyball battle.

Free Ball is currently being developed by a solo creator with a passion for both competitive games and volleyball.
The journey started in music, working as a musician and audio engineer, alongside a lifelong love of video games. That passion eventually expanded into volleyball—drawn in by how deeply it relies on teamwork, coordination, and trust between players.
After spending hundreds of hours playing volleyball, improving skills, and building connections through the sport, a new goal emerged: create a game that captures that same feeling.
That direction became clear after contributing to UFC 5 at EA Sports, which sparked a deeper interest in game development. From there, formal courses and hands-on learning helped transition into building games independently.
Free Ball is the result of combining all of those experiences— a love for competition, teamwork, and creating interactive systems—into a single project.

If you love volleyball, competitive games, or esports-style team play, Free Ball aims to bring something new to the genre.
Your support will help turn a working prototype into a full competitive game.
Back Free Ball and help bring competitive volleyball gaming to life.
